Art Show Dates: 16-17 July, 2024 (Tuesday/Wednesday) Time: 5-9:30 PM (during poster & exhibit sessions) Location: Bear room & Red shoe rooms (connected) in the Price Center, UC San Diego Campus
NAASC is happy to announce the 1st ICAR ART SHOW, an event to showcase Arabidopsis (or any plant, or plant data)-inspired ART organized by NAASC member Cris Argueso, from Colorado State University. The goal is to give an opportunity for ICAR attendees and the Arabidopsis community to showcase ART inspired by their projects in Arabidopsis (or other plants) and their science.
Pieces accepted can be posters, paintings, pictures, micrographs, graphs, or even sculptures and computer art (as long as computers are provided by the artists). If you have an idea for another type of piece to display, please contact us to discuss the feasibility.
We have two (connected) rooms in the ICAR venue at UC San Diego reserved for the art show.
Pieces may be displayed in several ways: (1) displayed on tables (2) hung on walls using a hook and wire to hang them on the hanging track in the rooms (3) using hanging foam board that art can be attached to with double-sided tape (4) taped to walls using blue painters' tape. We can provide foam board & painters' tape, and there are hooks & wires in the room, as well as tables. Please see links below to see the room (Bear room). When you contact the organizer (Cris Argueso) you can discuss the mode of display for your art.
There will be volunteers monitoring the pieces during the times the exhibit is open (Tuesday & Wednesday 5-9:30 PM), and the rooms will be locked at all other times.
The space will be open to all (including the community) during exhibit hours.
Artists will be asked to write an artist statement, which will be printed and posted next to their art, and their names will be posted on a poster about the exhibit. We will provide the deadline for statements to artists that express interest (email: cris.argueso[at]colostate.edu)
Artists can display more than one piece, as long as space is available.
Photography of pieces will be allowed only with artist consent.
No prizes will be given. This is just a celebration of art and science, and competition is not encouraged. Just enjoy!
Space is available on a first-come, first-served basis.
