How to Apply for VIRTUAL Fee Waiver

- Statement of Financial Need for Fee Waiver (100-300 words)- describe why you need a virtual fee waiver to be able to participate.
- Statement of Value/Benefit of attending ICAR 2024 (100-300 words)- describe why you want to attend ICAR and how it would benefit you/your career, and your goals for attending)
- Research Title/Abstract (up to 300 words. Note: this submission is for award selection only and is not an official ICAR abstract submission. If you want to be considered for a virtual talk you must submit your abstract to ICAR via the abstract portal by April 15. Note that there will not be a virtual poster session; the only abstract presentation for virtual is if selected for a talk. Virtual participant abstracts will be included in the abstract pdf. Virtual attendees are not required to submit an official abstract nor are they required to present a talk at ICAR. See the list of ICAR 2024 mini-symposia & workshops that are accepting abstracts if you submit an abstract by April 15.
- Brief CV/Resume (2 pages max, include education, current position, relevant publications, awards, mentoring, outreach & education, etc.)

The Letter of Support (students & postdocs only) can be emailed directly. The letter can be from an advisor, a committee member, a mentor (anyone that knows the applicant in a professional capacity.
The application form will include the volunteer options shown below and you are asked to check off the activities you are willing to do, if awarded a fee waiver. We also request that awardees help advertise ICAR 2024 via social media, email, and/or other outlets you are familiar with.

- Research Title/Abstract (up to 300 words. Awardees must present a talk or poster. Note: this submission is for award selection only and is not an official ICAR abstract submission. You must submit your abstract to ICAR via the abstract portal by April 15 (if you want to be considered for a talk) or May 31 (for poster only) See the list of ICAR 2024 mini-symposia & workshops that are accepting abstracts if you submit an abstract by April 15.

- Students & Postdoc applicants only: You can upload the Letter of Support PDF or if your advisor prefers, it can be emailed directly. Please ask them to include your last name in the file name.
- Faculty applicants only: Current & Pending Support (grants/ other funding available to you)

- Pre-ICAR: Assist with assembling conference bags (on the weekend prior to ICAR so may be most relevant to local, i.e., San Diego area, attendees)
- Pre/During ICAR: Assist at the registration desk (e.g., handing out registration packets)
- During ICAR: Assist during a session (we will match volunteers to sessions they prefer; duties at request of session chair(s) e.g.,, pass microphone for Q&A, monitor questions via Zoom, etc.)
- During ICAR: Provide social media updates (e.g., about the Art Show, Weed Stampede, sessions, workshops, conference dinner)
- During ICAR: Assist with the 5K Weed Stampede Fun Run/Walk (Wednesday morning)
- Post-ICAR: write an ICAR-themed blog to be posted to our community website & shared via social media (e.g., about a session, event, networking, etc.)

Closed: NAASC Inclusivity Scholars Program (ISP) Cohort Full Funding Program

All pieces due no later than March 31, 2024 via online submission form.
Eligible to apply:
NAASC will help ISP cohort members by paying most costs up-front: flight, lodging, registration. NAASC will coordinate travel to the best of their ability, including with ISP cohort leaders, to ensure ISP awardees can take part in the cohort and participate in ICAR together. NAASC will follow up with selected awardees with details.

Eligible to apply:
- Students, postdocs, and faculty currently enrolled or employed at a U.S. institution, are U.S. citizens or permanent residents, and that are members of under-represented groups in U.S. STEM including:
- African American
- Black
- Latinx/o/a American of North (i.e. Mexican), South or Central American descent,
- Native American/American Indian,
- Native Hawaiian and Other Pacific Islander (with origin in any of the original peoples of Hawaii, Guam, Samoa, or other Pacific islands),
- Alaska Native (of the indigenous peoples of Alaska, United States: Iñupiat, Yupik, Aleut, Eyak, Tlingit, Haida, Tsimshian, and a number of Northern Athabaskan cultures).
- Also eligible: Faculty at U.S. HBCUs/TCUs/MSIs/1890 Institutions that mentor members of under-represented groups, as described above.

- Faculty at HBCU, MSI, or TCU only: Statement of how you mentor members of represented groups in US STEM. May include roles such as: instructor, advisor, lab /research PI, committee member, etc.
- SPECIAL NOTE: The NAASC Inclusivity Scholars Subcommittee (ISS) and Cohort leaders will develop a program for ISP awardees before ICAR (Zoom introduction call) and during ICAR (e.g., meals, meet-ups, and pre-ICAR sessions.) Our objectives are to build and strengthen a network of inclusivity scholars that will hopefully serve you personally and professionally throughout your career. We also will distribute two surveys to assess the goals & interests of awardees prior to ICAR and following ICAR to assess how your goals were/weren’t achieved. We ask that all ISP Cohort funding awardees commit to participating as fully as possible with the Cohort program before & during ICAR 2024.
