In 1957, polio vaccine pioneer Jonas Salk conceived of a collaborative place where scientists could explore the basic principles of life and realize the broader implications of their discoveries for the benefit of our world. Working in collaboration with the preeminent architect Louis Kahn, Jonas Salk’s vision produced one of the most architecturally renowned sites in United States. The Salk Institute was declared a historical landmark in 1991.
The ICAR 2024 reception will be held outdoors in Salk’s Red Brick Courtyard situated at the entrance to campus. Flanked by the East Building, which houses many of Salk’s plant biology labs, the Red Brick Courtyard serves as a gateway to the original buildings and main courtyard and to the Pacific Ocean beyond. |
